Job Summary

The Public Health Advisor will provide strategic guidance and expertise in public health program planning, implementation, and evaluation. The successful candidate will work closely with various health departments and stakeholders to design and oversee public health initiatives that address key health challenges in Nigeria, including disease prevention, health promotion, and epidemic response.Public health advisor

Key Responsibilities

  1. Strategic Planning and Policy Development
    • Develop and provide recommendations for public health policies and strategies in line with the Federal Ministry of Health’s objectives.
    • Support the creation and implementation of evidence-based policies and programs to address national health priorities.
    • Ensure alignment of health programs with national and international public health standards and best practices.
  2. Program Management and Implementation
    • Oversee the planning, execution, and monitoring of health programs, ensuring they meet their objectives and deliver measurable outcomes.
    • Lead efforts to design and implement effective health interventions to address issues such as maternal and child health, communicable diseases, and health emergencies.
    • Coordinate with various departments to ensure seamless implementation and integration of health programs across different regions.
  3. Technical Support and Capacity Building
    • Provide technical assistance and capacity building to state and local health authorities to strengthen public health systems and improve service delivery.
    • Offer expertise in areas such as disease surveillance, health information systems, and community health outreach.
    • Facilitate training workshops and seminars for health professionals to enhance their skills and knowledge in public health practices.
  4. Data Analysis and Research
    • Conduct epidemiological research and analysis to identify health trends and inform policy decisions.
    • Collect, interpret, and present health data to guide programmatic decisions and policy formulation.
    • Prepare comprehensive reports and policy briefs based on research findings and public health assessments.
  5. Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement
    • Serve as a liaison between the Ministry of Health and external partners, including non-governmental organizations, international agencies, and research institutions.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure effective collaboration and resource mobilization.
    • Represent the Ministry at national and international health forums and conferences.
  6. Emergency Preparedness and Response
    • Play a key role in the Ministry’s emergency preparedness and response efforts, including coordinating health responses to disease outbreaks and natural disasters.
    • Develop and update emergency preparedness plans and protocols.
    • Support the Ministry in strengthening national capacities for public health emergency management.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Master’s degree or higher in Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Policy, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in public health, including policy development, program management, and research.
  • Technical Skills: In-depth knowledge of public health principles, health systems, and policy frameworks. Proven experience in health program design, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Collaboration: Experience working with government agencies, international organizations, and other stakeholders in a health policy or advisory role.
  • Research and Analysis: Proficiency in conducting epidemiological research, data analysis, and using health information systems.
